  • Battle over Parkway heats up (Rocky Mountain Outlook)
(June 25, 2009) “While this area has not seen a lot of wildlife mortality, the number and frequency of vehicles and the behaviour of people in those vehicles serves to drive animals away from habitat that is very important to them,” said Jim Pissot, executive director of Defenders of Wildlife Canada. “The effect on animals is not as easy to measure as the negative effect of grizzly bears struck by trains or cars, but it does cause their avoidance of ideal habitat, reduces the animals’ fitness and ultimate productivity of young growing into adults.”<img src="http://feeds.feedburner.com/~r/defendersofwildlife-inthenews/~4/63cx5RwyUYY" height="1" width="1"/>

Rather, he said, the legislation calls for energy projects to be designed in a way that sustains wildlife populations.
